Ninth Island Sauvignon Blanc
27/02/2012
Here’s a Tasmanian wine for those who like their sauvignon blanc fresh, flinty and minerally with heaps of crunchy acid. This is as sharp as a politician’s tongue and a reflection of the cool-climate terroir. The nose is appealingly floral and grassy and there are no signs of tropical fruit - the palate is driven by herbaceousness, asparagus and that searing acid with gooseberry and greengage notes to the fore. This would be a stunning partner to local seafood – and could also pair well with spicy Asian cuisine.

Norfolk Rise Mount Benson Cabernet
20/02/2012
If you are having a young cabernet it's probably best to have a cheap one so there's less guilt about not cellaring it. But then again, 2008 is quite old by today's standards.

Write-Up for the 2007 Norfolk Rise Cabernet Sauvignon
06/09/2011
“Wine of the Week” - Mount Benson is part of South Australia’s Limestone Coast zone and Norfolk Rise is a sister winery to Tasmania’s Pipers Brook. This wine was a discovery for me, a very good, mellow, ready-drinking cabernet from a largely forgettable vintage in South Australia. And look at the price! Medium-full ruby red, with raspberry and other red-fruit aromas. It’s medium bodied, with good intensity, roundness and balance, some richness, and nicely supple tannins. Easy-drinking cabernet, now and for another five years. 90 points

*Kreglinger Vintage Brut 2005, $50.* An amazing discovery, this is fabulous stuff in which to poach salmon. Thankfully you don’t need much, coz it’s good stuff to drink too. 9.5/10 as poacher, 9/10 to drink.

Gourmet Wine Traveller - Ken Gargett

As good as all the fizz from this famous producer is (nee Pipers Brook), the stand-out is the very special rose. This is a subtle style, the colour is light-pale salmon pink and, even with the time that has already passed it has many heads ahead of it. Spice and floral notes, a hint of raspberry and finshing with zingy acidity. A crisp, refreshing, vibrant, stunning Tassie bubbly.
