2006 Norfolk Rise Cabernet

Write-Up for the 2007 Norfolk Rise Cabernet Sauvignon

“Wine of the Week” - Mount Benson is part of South Australia’s Limestone Coast zone and Norfolk Rise is a sister winery to Tasmania’s Pipers Brook. This wine was a discovery for me, a very good, mellow, ready-drinking cabernet from a largely forgettable vintage in South Australia. And look at the price! Medium-full ruby red, with raspberry and other red-fruit aromas. It’s medium bodied, with good intensity, roundness and balance, some richness, and nicely supple tannins. Easy-drinking cabernet, now and for another five years. 90 points

Huon Hooke - The Sydney Morning Herald Good Living Magazine, August 2011

Norfolk Rise often offers good value wines of quality but this stands out as an amazing success in an ordinary vintage. A medium-bodied wine with plush red berry fruit and a subtle spicing from decent oak and a few years to bring it all together. It's drinking beautifully right now but will hold together for several more years. 4 stars.

Christopher Hayes – Eat & Drink, August 2011

Bright crimson, estate-grown grapes, cold soaked before fermentation at a maximum of 29°C, then matured in French oak for 16 months; the wine is light-to-medium-bodied, with bright blackcurrant and cassis fruit, the tannins soft and fine.
Remarkable value. 90 points
