Low yielding old vines producing fruit of unique character are chosen from selected sites across our estate vineyards. Hand crafted in small batch format, these parcels are blended to create our Reserve Pinot Noir. The resultant wine displays rich concentrated Dark Berry fruits and alluring earthy spice. Rich, structural and savoury, this is a wine of excellent cellaring potential.

Tasting Notes

Vineyard Notes
Produced from grapes grown at our select vineyard sites Pipers Brook, Mount Pleasant and West Tamar. Sites around Pipers Brook feature Ferrosol (volcanic) soils, the Mount Pleasant site features Jurassic dolerite lying above tertiary aged sediments, while those in the Tamar Valley are Vertosol (black cracking clay) soils. Pioneering clonal selection and mass selection sites of vines ageing up to 40 years consistently provides concentration and depth of character. Vines are grown on Vertical Shoot Positioned (VSP) trellises, which help to expose bunches to the sun, thus achieving full ripeness with well-balanced flavours and fine, ripe tannins. All fruit is picked and sorted by hand.
Winemaker Notes
Selective vineyard sites are handpicked to give small parcels of pristine fruit. The grapes are chilled before careful de-stemming to give whole berries for cold soak of 5-7 days to allow lush textual richness to release from the skins. These berries are then fermented in small open vats at 28-30 deg C, followed by some post ferment cap-sink and maceration on skins. The wine is then basket pressed and transferred to fine grain French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and ageing in our cool underground cellars for a duration of 12 months prior to bottling.
