2016 Brut de Blancs

2016 Brut de Blancs

The epitome of classical sparkling chardonnay wines. Grown on a single site, made in tiny quantities, crafted by hand and aged for more than 3 years in bottle before release, this is a wine of elegance and complexity. This exquisite wine perfectly captures the purity of Tasmania with subtle notes of lemon, crisp white pear and fresh brioche. The perfect aperitif.

"Heralding an exciting new era for Kreglinger, this is a profoundly elegant expression of this outstanding house, a chardonnay of bright, pale straw hue and refreshingly understated grace. Delicate white pear and lemon fruit are very subtly accented with the complexity of just over three years lees age, lending more in silky texture than in complexity of flavour. Perfectly integrated, salty acidity and invisible dosage define a seamless finish."

Vineyard Notes
This vintage Kreglinger sparkling is sourced from a single vineyard of the same name, with high-density chardonnay of significant vine age, specifically established and managed for sparkling wine production in the Pipers Brook district. The site was chosen for our vintage sparkling program after many years of rigorous trialling and evaluation. Annual heat summation figures of 950-1050 growing degree days Celsius compare very favourably with sites in Champagne (around 1030 GDD). The Pipers Brook district is characterised by Ferrosol (volcanic) soils, also known as kraznozems. Basalt-derived, they have excellent water holding capacity, offering a steady supply of moisture and nourishment to vines that are managed without irrigation. Vertical Shoot Positioned (VSP) trellises of very high vine density are hedge-trimmed in summer to provide increased bunch exposure to the sun. Row-spacings are narrow at 1.5 metres.
Winemaker Notes
A single site of exceptional Chardonnay was chosen to create this wine, hand harvested and very gently whole bunch pressed. Only the very finest juice fraction was taken for 100% barrel fermentation in aged French oak, where the wine was matured for 9 months as the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to create the exceptional texture and creaminess. Only the best barrels were then selected to create the final blend, and the complete wine was bottled, underwent secondary fermentation in bottle and aged on lees for 3 years delivering beauty and complexity.
