Kreglinger Wine Estates

John Hosken, CEO

John Hosken joined the Kreglinger Wine Estates team in 2015 coming from a background of agricultural production at Webster Limited and fast moving consumer goods sales at Carlton United Breweries. 

Since then John has brought in some of the southern hemisphere's top talent to the winemaking and viticulture teams at Kreglinger Wine Estates.

Jim Chatto, Chief Winemaker

Jim oversees the entire portfolio of Kreglinger Wine Estates; Norfolk Rise from South Australia and the Tasmanian portfolio of Ninth Island, Pipers Brook and Kreglinger Vintage Sparkling.

Jim is a Len Evans Tutorial Scholar and senior wine show judge with over 20 years of experience across both regional and capital city shows. He is also the current Chairman of Judges of the National Wine Show of Australia. In 2009 Jim was named ‘Hunter Valley Winemaker of the Year’, and in 2010 was a Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year finalist. 

Fred Strachan, Head Viticulturist

Fred has a love for all things agriculture having grown up on his parent’s South Australian stone fruit and fig farm that he now owns with his sister.

Fred turned his hand to viticulture in 2002 and honed his skills with prominent winemakers Yalumba, before deciding to call Tasmania home in 2015.

Fred heads up the viticulture team overseeing the operation of our seven vineyards in Northern Tasmania ensuring we are able to produce all estate grown wines. 

Natalie Fryar, Sparkling Winemaker

Multi-award winning sparkling winemaker Natalie Fryar is renowned throughout the industry having worked nationally and internationally for some of the industry’s biggest names in a career spanning over 30 years.

Touted as one of the best sparkling winemakers in the country, Natalie brings her expertise and experience to the Kreglinger Wine Estates sparkling brands – Kreglinger, Pipers Brook and Ninth Island.

Natalie is passionate about everything Tasmanian and recently took the plunge to relocate to the island state after previously commuting from her base in the Barossa Valley.

Callum Czyz, State Sales Manager, Tasmania

Callum Czyz has been part of the Kreglinger Wine Estates team for over 2 years.  A born and bred Tasmanian, his passion for wine has been an ongoing love affair. 

With 9 years’ experience in hospitality running some leading Tasmanian restaurants and bars in Hobart, Callum has been exposed to both sales and customer experience management roles, which plays a major part in his position within Kreglinger Wine Estates.

Rachel Ciezki, Marketing & Sales Coordinator

With a background in sales, marketing and cellar door experience, Rachel joined the team in 2017 and manages all marketing, events, PR and communications across the entire Kreglinger Wine Estates portfolio.

A native Tasmanian, Rachel is a passionate advocate for Tasmanian wine, Tasmanian produce and our growing Tourism industry.

Pipers Brook Vineyard 

Luke Whittle, Senior Winemaker

Luke’s winemaking career began in New Zealand, working part time in a West Auckland winery in 2007 while completing a degree in Wine Science at the University of Auckland. After several vintages in New Zealand Luke made the move to Central Victoria to work with the Balgownie Estate in 2011. 

Having gained experience in vintage winemaking in Canada and Germany, Luke was drawn to Tasmania in 2015 to pursue an ever-growing passion for cool climate wines. Luke returned in 2016 and in September was appointed as senior winemaker with Pipers Brook Vineyard. 

Norfolk Rise Vineyard

Dan Berrigan, Senior Winemaker

Dan grew up in Perth, Western Australia and at the tender age of 18 chose to move to Adelaide to study winemaking at the world-renowned Adelaide University Waite Campus (formerly Roseworthy) where he graduated in 2003. Dan has a great passion for learning and so began traveling between Tasmania, Oregon and the Russian River region of Northern Carolina, before settling down at Norfolk Rise in 2008. By travelling and working in world class wineries such at Pipers Brook Vineyard, Domaine Drouhin Oregon, Hatford Court, Freestone Wines and Tamar Ridge Wines, Dan is able to draw on his experience of cool climate winemaking and apply it to our wines at Norfolk Rise. 

George Andrews, Vineyard Manager

George was brought up on a farm in the local area and initially pursued a career in the fishing industry which took him around Australia as well as to New Zealand. In 1997 he began his studies in viticulture, and in 1998 he returned home to help develop a vineyard on family land in the newly emerging region of Mount Benson. In 2000, George joined Norfolk Rise as the property manager and has been a major contributor to its development over the past 17 years.

Alice Baker,  Assistant Winemaker

Alice grew up among the apple trees of the Adelaide Hills, and after completing an undergraduate degree at Adelaide University with honours in Geology and Geophysics, she worked for PIRSA using spectral sensing technology to evaluate soils and drill core for industry. After completing vintages in McLaren Vale, she returned to study Oenology and Viticulture at Adelaide University. She has travelled, tasted and worked in some far reaching wine regions of the world including, Kakheti Georgia, the Okanagan Valley Canada, Chile, California, France and South Africa before calling the coastal town of Robe home.
