Vineyard Notes
This vintage Kreglinger sparkling Rosé is sourced from a single vineyard of the same name, with high-density Pinot Noir of significant vine age, specifically established and managed for sparkling wine production in the Pipers Brook district. The site was chosen for our vintage sparkling Rosé program after many years of rigorous trialling and evaluation. Annual heat summation figures of 950-1050 growing degree days Celsius compare very favourably with sites in Champagne (around 1030 GDD). The Pipers Brook district is characterised by Ferrosol (volcanic) soils, also known as kraznozems. Basalt-derived, they have excellent water holding capacity, offering a steady supply of moisture and nourishment to vines that are managed without irrigation. Vertical Shoot Positioned (VSP) trellises of very high vine density are hedge-trimmed in summer to provide increased bunch exposure to the sun. Row-spacings are narrow at 1.5 metres.
Production Notes
100% Pinot Noir. Dosage: 7.0g/L. Alcohol: 12.5%
Winemaker Notes
A single site of exceptional Pinot Noir was chosen to create this wine, hand harvested and very gently whole bunch pressed. Only the very finest of the juice was taken for 100% barrel fermentation in aged French oak, where the wine was matured for 9 months as the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to create the exceptional texture and creaminess we see today. Only the best barrels were then selected to create the final blend, and the complete wine was bottled, underwent secondary fermentation in bottle and aged on lees for over 3 years delivering beauty and complexity.
Other Notes
"100% pinot noir, hand harvested. Matured 9 months in aged French oak barrels with bâtonnage for texture and creaminess. Barrel selection. Traditional method, aged 44 months on lees with 7.5g/L dosage. The pinot noir of the old vines of the Kreglinger vineyard has always been something to behold, and never has it looked more precise nor more graceful than this. Delectable red cherry and wild-strawberry fruit seduces from the outset, graced with the signature Turkish delight of Pipers River, but it's the creamy, silky texture of barrel and lees work that really sets apart this sublime creation." -Tyson Stelzer.
