Aroma: Lifted floral aromas of white flowers and citrus blossom, delicate citrus notes, Kaffir lime and hints of spice.
Palate: Fresh citrus flavours of meyer lemon and lime with sublime tension, gorgeous fine natural acidity and slatey minerality.
Produced from Riesling sourced from high density vineyard plantings of significant vine age up to 40 years, specifically established and managed for premium riesling production in the Pipers Brook district. Close proximity to the sea gives these vines a distinctly cool maritime climate and a protracted growing season with gradual flavour and sugar accumulation.
Sites in the Pipers Brook district feature Ferrosol (volcanic) soils, also known as kraznozems. Basalt-derived, they have excellent water holding capacity, offering a steady supply of moisture and nourishment to vines that are managed without irrigation. Vines are grown predominantly on cane-pruned, Vertical Shoot Positioned (VSP) trellises that are hedge-trimmed in summer to provide increased bunch exposure to the sun.
The grapes, naturally chilled by cool early morning temperatures, were harvested and then processed without delay. Whilst in the press, the fruit underwent a short period of skin contact to extract additional aroma and flavour compounds locked away in the skins. This helps create a more complex and savoury Riesling with richness and texture. The enhanced juice was fermented slowly at very low temperatures in stainless steel vessels to maximise freshness and retain subtle fruit aromas and flavours. Bottled early under screwcap to lock in freshness.
